When To Check for Learning/Developmental Disabilities

Learning/developmental disabilities range from mild to profound and usually broken down into five categories: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual and learning disabilities. Dr. Errol Douglas at Gold Pediatrics in Rockville, MD, can describe each one in detail during a visit to our office, and help you remain calm while overseeing your child's needs if they aren't meeting their typical milestones. He'll also provide you with all the resources you need to supply them with the best possible care, support, and services. If you're wondering when to check for learning/developmental disabilities we've provided some guidelines below.

When To Check For Learning/Developmental Disabilities

Learning/development disabilities are brain divergences that impair a person's ability to read, write, speak, calculate, and conduct other similar tasks. When your child visits our board-certified pediatrician, developmental screening, which takes a closer look at how your child is developing, will happen during ages nine, 18, and 30 months. At ages 18 and 24 months, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends an assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This evaluation may include a parent questionnaire and observation tests regarding how your child plays and interacts with others. Learning/developmental disabilities are manageable and with proper attention and care, Dr. Douglas can mitigate the detrimental effects disabilities may cause, such as trouble with academic performance, language processing, memory retention, following directions, as well as learning, and behavioral issues.

If you have concerns regarding your child not reaching milestones for their age, consult with Dr. Errol Keith Douglas at Gold Pediatrics to discuss, diagnose, and treat learning/developmental disabilities in Rockville, MD. Dr. Douglas considers it his mission to help parents raise healthy, strong children and devotes himself to lending a helping hand as your child grows and progresses as they age.
